Aer Lingus is licensed in the EU, so Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 covers its departures from any EU or EEA airport and its arrivals into one from anywhere. Unlike US law it pays for the disruption itself — €250, €400 or €600 by distance — though the airline may halve it if a re-route gets you there quickly enough, and owes nothing at all where it can prove extraordinary circumstances.
