Suvarnabhumi is a single enormous terminal building, which sounds simple until you walk it. The concourses radiate a long way from the centre, and the newer satellite terminal is far enough out that it needs an automated train to reach.
Bangkok's traffic is the other planning factor. The Airport Rail Link is not glamorous but it removes the single biggest variable in getting into the city, which on a bad afternoon can turn a forty-minute drive into a great deal more.
Terminals and how they connect
Main terminal, concourses A to G
One building with concourses radiating from a central area. The walks are long — reaching a far concourse takes a genuine fifteen to twenty minutes.
Satellite Terminal 1
Opened in 2023 to add gate capacity, reached from the main terminal by an automated people mover taking a few minutes.
Getting between them
The people mover connects the main terminal and the satellite airside and runs frequently. Everything is within one secure area, so no re-screening is involved.
Don Mueang is a separate airport
Bangkok's second airport handles most low-cost traffic. It is a long road journey from Suvarnabhumi and the two are not connected airside in any way.
